Our own Odyssey

When the time comes, our Troy challenge calls us forth
To embark on a voyage towards true north
Even if our links to what we built will cease
With courage, we’ll enter the pit of the beast

Wrenched from battle to battle we may cross a line
End up looting jewels and downing pitches of wine
Be ruthlessly swept away by temptations
And far away from our very foundations

To meet our fate, destiny whispers a course
Tosses us on the wine dark sea with such force
The comings and goings and every motions
All but the same wave on the wild oceans

We will weave our patterns at land or at sea
Creating and destroying repeatedly
Undoing our work so to restart again
Loyally spinning stories of joy and pain

Distractions may toy with our fragility
Rob riches, bring light relief and flattery
We will test who is to be a worthy guest
In the home of our true being’s treasured chest

Sometimes we pin our strength to a trusted mast
Block our senses to charms and sail on past
Use strategies that are within our control
Or embrace mystery and call to our soul

We are all bringing each other back home here
Each yearning to unite ourselves in a pair
That which is missing is never far or broke
Recognisable under our hidden cloak
